Our First Trip of the 2015 Season

As has become customary, we began our RV season with a trip to the Barrie KOA. OK, so “customary” may be a bit of a stretch, as this is only our 2nd season with our trailer, but we do fully intend on making the Barrie KOA our first and (hopefully) last trip location of each season. And, after speaking with a number of fellow campers, it seems we are not alone when it comes to the (many) reasons why we (all) chose to start our season at this park wonderful park.

To begin with, it is just over an hour away from home, so it allows for a quick getaway for us. The park is not overly large, therefore it never feels too crowded and is very quiet. They have a good selections of sites that offer full hook-ups, which is very handy for de-winterizing and flushing your trailer’s holding tanks and water lines. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the facilities are spotless. And finally, there’s Bando’s Pizza. They make amazing pizza right there on the KOA site, which they will deliver to your trailer! So, after a long day of working on the trailer, trust me… order a pizza, sit back and enjoy!

Our “opening weekend” was rather short and extremely busy. A month earlier, we had some renovations done to the trailer. This meant we had to move a bunch of stuff out of the trailer, to clear space for the work to be carried out. So not only do we have the usual de-winterizing to do but we have the added fun of finding new storage locations for the stuff that was removed for the renovations.

So while I worked away at the de-winterization, something I am somewhat good at, Kathie did what she does better than anyone else. She reorganized the trailer and has found a new home for everything that was displaced because of the reno and has somehow made even more space available!

I have no idea how she does it! I want to know but when I ask, I get the “you’re a guy and you really wouldn’t understand if I told you” look. So I just look on in awe (which is what I truly am) and continue to be amazed at how much stuff we can get in our trailer.

Before we knew it, it was Sunday afternoon and it was checkout time. Damn that went way too fast. But alas, there are many more trips ahead. So we packed everything up and headed home.

I wondered if our second year of camping would bring the same excitement as our first year did. So far, I’d have to say… DEFINITELY! Maybe even more than the year before and I can’t wait for our next trip to Presqu’ile Provincial Park on the May long-weekend!

Until next time… Enjoy the ride!
